| The cherry is a native of South West Asia and was introduced to
Japan in the Meiji Period (1868 - 1912). It has a uniquely characteristic
combination of sweetness and sourness. As it is a difficult tree
to grow, its fruit is expensive. Yet the appearance of this fruit,
both fresh and lovely, invites comparison to the innocence of a
young maiden. At Minamoto Kitchoan, in making our sakuranbotraditional-style
Japanese sweet, we use cherries that are delivered to us fresh from
orchards in Yamagata Prefecture in central Japan. We wrap them in
a pink Japanese-style jelly to deliver you a dessert whose delicate
sweetness and fragrance engulf your taste buds as you enjoy it.
When eating our sakuranbo sweets, please be careful not to eat
the seed or the stalk.
