The great Japanese warrior, Minamoto no Yoritomo (1147 - 1192), established the capital of his shogunate or military government in Kamakura in eastern Japan in 1192. Ever since, numerous cultural traditions have been handed down from this ancient city. The famous Buddhist temples of Enkakuji, Tokeiji, Myogetsuin, long and rich in history, and surrounded by the brilliant greens of an abundant nature, give the city an aura of enchanting elegance. If at dusk you walk along the narrow street in central Kamakura where the Minamoto Kitchoan store is located, heading towards the famous Tsuruoka Hachimangu Shinto shrine, a focal point of the city, you will hear the sounds of temple bells, the voice of the wind, and the gentle rustle of the wind through the leaves of the trees. Our store presents the "Sounds of Kamakura," named in honor of the various sounds woven into the fabric of life in this beautiful, old city. We wrap a strained red bean paste in Turkish delight, which we then sprinkle with kinako (a type of soy bean flour) to create a delectable, traditional style Japanese sweet. Please enjoy its refined taste. |
